I deliberately chose places away from the tourism trail, so maybe it was my fault. We were going down the long road along Bali's south west coast and I told them to stop at 'Soka' - but he either misheard of forgot and dropped me at Medewi (30 km away). It was only a problem because I arrived so late and it was the last bus.

I had a similar experience in Indonesia, when the bus just left me somewhere that wasn't my destination (because they realised they'd gone a long way past it). If they dump you and drive off, they can just be free of the responsibility and you're someone else's problem.

In my situation it was midnight, there were no more buses or taxis and I couldn't find any hotels. So I had to sleep in a field until buses began the next morning. Thanks, bus driver.

I don't care about standards except security for my laptop bag and preferably Wi-Fi (though sometimes I have to travel to the next town and use internet cafes, especially in Indonesia).

I never found a $1 hostel, that sounds great - the cheapest I stayed in was 50 baht in Thailand (very sweaty) and 7 ringget in central Malaysia (bed bugs).

Hahaha! It wasn't a good experience for me the first time, but then I tried it again thinking maybe I was just caught in the rush hour with a bad train. True, I got a better train with good ac and not so packed (because they're always packed). Mind you, they can be overpacked during rush hour, like you don't have to hold on to something while standing in the middle, you won't fall because you can't even move! Hahaha!

I've gotten used to it, but one thing I noticed too, passengers of PNR are more considerate than LRT passengers. They wait for your to get out and give you space to get out no matter how packed it is even if you're in the middle (away from the door). LRT passengers just don't care.
